Over the last 20 years, both political parties have consistently bent the rules, if not broken the law, to find political advantage. It is a sad state of affairs that the short-term political gain of either party is worth the long-term political conflict this behavior is breeding.
The mid-decade redistricting in Texas is wrong. Republicans had the chance to draw a highly partisan map in 2021. Deciding to do it in the midst of a battle for control of the U.S. House opens the door to this becoming a common occurrence, and with California’s response, states like Missouri, Ohio and Indiana are all considering mid-decade redraws.
