An investigation is underway after an unfounded threat of violence was made at Auburn University Wednesday afternoon.
Police responded en masse to the area of Ralph B Draughon Library after Auburn Police received a call of a threat at the building on Mell Street.
Officers responded and searched the building while access was temporarily closed, and occupants evacuated, police said Wednesday evening.
The search turned up no threat, and further investigation determined the call was a hoax.
“The unfounded threat associated with this incident is a felony as defined by Alabama state law,” Auburn police said in their statement.
Authorities did not disclose the nature of the threat, but shooting hoaxes have plagued numerous colleges across the country since classes resumed last week.
