MOORHEAD (KFGO) – School resource officers are returning to Moorhead Area Public Schools.

Moorhead Police Department and school district say the officers will be back in district buildings on Tuesday, the first day of the new school year.

Two officers will be on-site, one assigned to Moorhead High School and one at Horizon Middle School. Later this fall, a third officer will join the team, based at Horizon West. The police department will cover the cost of the program.

SROS were pulled from the schools two years ago over concerns of the potential for lawsuits connected to a state law on the use of force against students. They returned to the buildings later that school year after a legal opinion from Attorney General Keith Ellison.
