PHILADELPHIA — NFL teams don’t really care how they find players. Draft, trade, free agency — all avenues are welcome as long as the player can play.

There is, however, something extra special about finding an undrafted rookie free agent worth keeping on the roster. Signing one that then becomes a starter is like discovering a rare gem, and discovering one that becomes a star is like striking gold in a place where there wasn’t supposed to be any.

You could sense coach Nick Sirianni’s excitement Tuesday when he was asked about wide receiver Darius Cooper, the latest undrafted rookie to make the Eagles’ roster.

“Not everybody has an ability to win one-on-one, and I think he’s shown that through camp that he has tools in his body to be able to win,” Sirianni said.
