Orlando residents are expressing their disappointment as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) enforces a new law requiring the removal of decorative crosswalks, including those at the Pulse Memorial site and Daytona International Speedway.

Steve Mitchell, division manager of McShea Contracting, which was hired by the city to paint these crosswalks, said, "I'm not aware of what caused the blacking out and what the decisions were but what I would like to comment on behalf the city of Orlando is the product that you are seeing us put down is not black traffic paint, it's a methyl methacrylate, very durable."
