CHICAGO -- The home run Salvador Perez hit to lead off the fifth inning was exactly the response the Royals were looking for after watching the White Sox take the lead with Andrew Benintendi’s home run the inning before.

The Royals’ catcher added a double in his second at-bat as part of Kansas City’s eight-run barrage in the fifth inning Wednesday night, routing the White Sox 12-1 at Rate Field to take the series and head into Thursday’s off-day on a positive note.
