RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. —

Rancho Cordova police are exploring some new technology to fight against mail thieves and porch pirates.

Rancho Cordova is installing Flock Safety license plate recognition cameras, a technology that has helped solve 700,000 crimes annually . They are also opening a new real-time information center, linking hundreds of cameras throughout the city for law enforcement to monitor.

"Before we had this, oftentimes, our dispatch center and our officers would be trying to find this data on their own. And then that would deter from their primary duty, and so would slow things down a little bit. And so by having a time information center, it lets everybody do their job effectively and more efficiently," said Chief Matthew Tamayo of the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
