KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Family and friends gathered Wednesday night to honor 18-year-old John Alfaro, one of the victims in Sunday’s shooting near the Power & Light District.

“It is just devastating that he's not here with us anymore,” Sanchez said. “But I would like him to be remembered to be always remembered as caring.”

Alfaro had recently graduated from high school and dreamed of starting his own construction company.

“I will always forever have him in my heart,” Sanchez said.

Members of Lowriding 2 Success, a local bike club, said Alfaro was just weeks away from finishing its mentorship program.
