AUSTIN, Texas — Austin city leaders are working on a critical deal that will impact flights at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for years to come.

Council members will vote on a decade-long airport use and lease agreement on Thursday, which could increase air travel from the airport.

Councilmember Vanessa Fuentes says the deal will allow airport leaders to negotiate agreements with airlines to help with Austin's airport expansion.

"This is an entirely new concourse that's going to get built," Fuentes said. " Twenty more gates available to Austinites and passengers who go through our airport."

In 2023, Austin's airport had its busiest year, with more than 22 million passengers coming through.
