The developer of the Google data center being constructed in southeast Fort Wayne has asked for permission to fill nearly 2 1/2 acres of protected wetlands to make way for the development’s second phase.

Google in April 2024 announced plans to invest $2 billion in a data center on Fort Wayne’s far east side. The long-range plans include up to nine data center buildings on an 892-acre site bordered by Adams Center and Tillman roads and the railroad corridor near New Haven.

Hatchworks LLC filed the application this month for Isolated Wetland Individual Permits from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. If approved, the developer plans to fill 1.65 acres of unforested wetlands and 0.79 acre of forested wetlands, according to the application.
