BATTLE CREEK - It was never an excuse. Simply a reason. Lakeview struggled last season due to be very young.

Lakeview head coach Brett Vernon said his team can no longer use being young as a reason for any shortcomings on the field.

"We were young last year. But we have a lot of returning starters coming back this year. That is a strength for us now," Vernon said. "It's no longer an excuse to say we are young.
