Certain games simply mean more; and in Cleveland County, none are bigger than the annual Crest-Shelby game.
Separated by six miles, the North Carolina gridiron bluebloods will meet for the 57th time in series history Friday, Aug. 29, at Shelby High's George Blanton Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Between Crest and Shelby are a combined 25 state championships. While such championship pedigree is important, the yearning for a year's worth of bragging rights in what some consider North Carolina's top high school football rivalry trumps all.
