Nevada officials said at a Wednesday press conference in Carson City that the state became the target of a “sophisticated, ransomware-based” cyberattack detected early Sunday, prompting teams to isolate and take some systems offline to contain the threat.
Timothy Galluzi, the state chief information officer and executive director of the Governor’s Technology Office, said evidence shows “some data has been exfiltrated, or moved outside of our state network, by the malicious actors.” He said investigators “cannot yet identify or classify the specific nature of this data” and cautioned against speculation while the review continues.
