In 2020, gun violence became the leading cause of death in children under the age of 18, surpassing deaths in motor vehicle accidents. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 139 children were killed every year between 2018 and 2023. More than a quarter of those deaths were suicides; 65% were homicides.
This data highlights the importance of parents teaching their children about firearm safety in the home. The Moms Demand Action group and the Be Smart community strive to inform parents to teach their kids about responsible gun ownership. We are a pro-Second Amendment organization, working to reduce gun violence in America.
The program Be Smart was developed 10 years ago and has reached millions of parents and families across the country. BE SMA
