UPPER TOWNSHIP — The Township Committee this week agreed to consider designating a long-vacant property in Marmora an area in need of rehabilitation.
In a unanimous vote Monday, committee members approved a memorandum of understanding with Fairhaven Development LLC, which has an agreement of sale for the former Verizon building at 11 Route 9.
The brick building has been vacant for more than a decade and in disrepair.
The site includes more than 14 acres and stands between a hardware store and a CVS near a busy intersection leading into Ocean City.
The vote came after a closed-door meeting held to discuss contract negotiations. As explained by township attorney John Amenhauser, the move aims to head off any objection from the developer to the township’s affordable housing p
