LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette High School and South Louisiana Community College are both on lockdown this morning due to an escaped prisoner in the area.
Law enforcement are on site in both locations. Both campuses will shelter in place until further notice after an inmate reportedly escaped from University Medical Center. Lafayette Police said the inmate was in the custody of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
An LPSS spokesperson said parents should not drop their students off to these campuses, as there is no check-in or check-out at this time. School buses are being rerouted to Cajun Field.
SLCC students are asked not to travel to the Lafayette campus until further notice.
