Motorists on the M8 near West Lothian have been warned of major delays as the motorway has been closed in both directions.

The M8 between junction five and six, on the outskirts of West Lothian, is at a standstill as police respond to a "man found injured" in the road.

Road users are being urged to avoid the area and live traffic camera images from Traffic Scotland shows motorists nose-to-tail.

The closure is understood to be between Calderbank and Shotts.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "The M8 is closed in both directions between J5 and J6 following a report of a man found injured. Emergency services are in attendance.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Motorists are advised to please avoid the area."
