Flights were delayed at Edinburgh Airport on Thursday morning after a drone was spotted within the exclusion zone.

The incident took place on August 28 with arrival flights held for a short period while investigations were carried out.

Following standard procedure, police were made aware due to the exclusion zone being breached. It is understood the drone did not enter the airfield and was not above the runway.

Anyone flying a drone within the airports restriction zone could face up to five years in prison and an unlimited fine.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has shared guidelines on their website that alerts drone users to the dangers of flying within the 5km restricted zone around airports, airfields, spaceports and aircraft.
