Police Thursday are continuing their investigation of a fatal collision between an Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s vehicle and a pedestrian in Orange.

Orange Police Department officers responded around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday to Chapman Avenue and Prospect Street regarding a collision. Investigators learned the victim was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by the sheriff’s department’s SUV, KABC 7 reported.

The deputy driving the SUV was not driving with lights and sirens on when it struck the man, Fox 11 reported.

KABC 7 reported the sheriff’s vehicle suffered significant damage to its front windshield in the collision.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange Fire Department personnel.
