Jameson Taillon just spent nearly two months on the injured list with a calf strain. He returned and threw five pretty good innings Sunday against the Angels (three hits and one run allowed), but left after just 62 pitches because of a groin issue. The removal was said to be precautionary at the time, but Thursday the Cubs placed Taillon on the 15-day injured list and recalled Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa.
Assad has made three starts for the Cubs this season and has a 3.86 ERA (six earned runs in 14 innings). He opened the season on the injured list with an oblique strain and made his 2025 season debut on August 12 at Toronto. His first two starts were a bit rough, but the last one, last Friday in Anaheim, was pretty good (two hits and one run allowed in six innings).
