CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina man’s fight to prove his innocence in a 2010 robbery and assault case is heading back to the courtroom on Thursday.

A hearing for Michael Pearson will be held in Clarendon County. Pearson has served 15 years behind bars for a 2010 violent assault and robbery, even after a co-defendant said he had nothing to do with it.

In 2012, Pearson and a co-defendant, Victor Weldon, were sentenced to 60 years after being found guilty of robbery. Police linked Pearson to the crime through a thumbprint on the victim’s car.

But in 2023, Weldon stated in a plea agreement that Pearson was not involved.
