MOSBY, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a small plane crashed Wednesday afternoon, killing two people on board near the Midwest National Air Center in Mosby, Missouri.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, just before noon, deputies and emergency personnel were called to the area of Northeast 140th Street and Rhodus Road on reports of smoke coming from a field. The callers told dispatch they believed a plane had crashed.

When deputies arrived, they reported seeing a Cessna C340 plane engulfed in flames in a soybean field.
