President Donald Trump's so-called "border czar," Tom Homan, explained that federal agents are wearing masks over their faces because it's what criminals do.

Homan, whose official title is the executive associate director for Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), spoke to the press outside the White House on Thursday when he was confronted with federal Homeland Security police covering their faces.

“Criminals have been wearing masks for a long time," Homan claimed.

"I mean, I saw groups like Antifa commit thousands of crimes for the past few years wearing masks, and no one complained about it," Homan said, comparing the ICE and DHS agents to lawbreakers.

"Look, every ICE has an insignia, whether it's HSI or ERO. You know, I can't prevent someone from making pretend — you know, I've seen people in my career, I've seen people paint a car like a border patrol car," Homan mumbled. "Unfortunately, that-that happens. We'll hold them accountable when caught but the bottom line is, I don't, I don't particularly like masks but ICE officers need the masks because their families are being doxed. Believe me, I know, I've been a victim of it. Their families are being doxed. Their children are being doxed. Their families are being put in harm's way.

"But no one has to question why didn't — you have all these legislatures out there that prevent ICE from wearing masks," Homan rambled. "Meanwhile, I don't see any legislation to keep these, uh, violent Antifa people who do these violent protests — they're not just protests, they're protests that turn violent and attack ICE officers. No one is asking for legislation to take their masks off. So, ICE agents are doing what they gotta do to make this country safe again."

He continued rambling about what a great job the agents are doing, despite their inability to reach quotas mandated by the White House.

"Their families are being attacked. And I know for a fact that my family is being attacked," Homan said, while not wearing a mask.

He demanded the press ask Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill why they compare ICE to racists and Nazis.

"If Congress don't like what ICE is doing they can certainly change the law," Homan concluded. "The protesters want to turn violent against ICE — why don't they go to Capitol Hill and protest Capitol Hill. They wrote the law that ICE is enforcing."
