Author and University of Delaware professor Dr. Douglas Tallamy has been called the “godfather of the native-plant movement” for igniting what’s become the leading mantra in today’s gardening world.

His 2007 “ Bringing Nature Home ” book launched a still-growing movement that calls for reducing lawns, removing invasive plants, aiding pollinators, and building local ecosystems by planting more native plants.

Tallamy’s best-selling 2020 book, “Nature’s Best Hope,” detailed how yardeners could make a big difference one yard at a time, and his 2021 book, “The Nature of Oaks,” focused on what he says is America’s nature-friendliest tree species.

The Homegrown National Park movement that he and Michelle Alfandari founded in that same time frame added even more firepower to the message.
