GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Thursday marks five years since the passing of “Black Panther” actor and Upstate native, Chadwick Boseman.

The award-winning actor passed away on Aug. 28, 2020 after a four-year battle with stage IV colon cancer . He was only 43.

Boseman’s hometown was Anderson, South Carolina where he attended T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson County School District Five.

In March 2024, the school district held a dedication ceremony to rename the fine arts center at Southwood Academy of the Arts to Chadwick Boseman Fine Arts Center .

Aside from playing Marvel’s Black Panther, Boseman’s work includes portraying historical figures such as baseball’s Jackie Robinson in “42″ and American civil rights lawyer and jurist Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall”. He also portraye
