Former Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira is running for Congress, per a press release that came out today. He is running for the Republican nomination in the 21st District of Texas. The incumbent in that district, Chip Roy, is not running for re-election, as he is running for state attorney general instead.

So this is a bit of news on an off day that I’m sure isn’t going to result in conflict in the comments of this post. We shall see how long the comments remain open.

Teixeira, of course, was the Rangers’ first round pick in 2001, selected fifth overall. After four and a half seasons with the club, which saw him finish fifth in the 2003 Rookie of the Year voting, win two Silver Slugger Awards and two Gold Glove Awards, and finish as high as seventh in the Most Valuable Player vo
