TEXAS (PIX11) — A former New York Yankees All-Star and World Series champion has thrown his hat in the ring for a congressional seat in Texas.

Mark Teixeira announced his campaign for Texas' 21st District, running as a Conservative Republican. Teixeira played eight seasons in the Bronx from 2009 to 2016, winning the 27th World Series in franchise history against the Philadelphia Phillies.

"I’m ready to go! As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I’m running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great," the Texan announced on social media.

The congressional campaign comes on the back of Congressman Chip Roy recently announcing his sights set on the position of Texas Attorney General.
