Gov. Tim Walz has announced that 20 state law enforcement officers are being deployed to patrol schools and places of worship in Minneapolis following Wednesday's mass shooting at Annunciation Church and Catholic School.

Walz said the deployment is at the request of the City of Minneapolis, with 14 Minnesota State Patrol troopers and six DNR officers sent to the city.

There they will split into groups of two who will be assigned across the city's five precincts "with a particular focus on schools and places of worship."

"The troopers and enforcement officers will coordinate with the Minneapolis Police Department to assist with patrol coverage and visibility," the announcement says.
