Leeds United have confirmed the expected departure of Isaac Schmidt as the defender leaves for Germany and a loan stay at Werder Bremen. The 25-year-old struggled to force his way into the Leeds team with any sort of regularity having arrived last summer, and following the promotion to the Premier League it has long been expected he would depart.
James Justin's arrival this week from Leicester City gave Leeds boss Daniel Farke the cover he needed at full-back, opening the door for Schmidt to leave Elland Road.
There had been talk of Schmidt leaving on a permanent deal, with £3m touted as the asking price. However, a deal has not been agreed, and as so he leaves on a loan agreement, no doubt for a smaller fee but with the player's wages off the books.
