SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) -- During what is usually a time to celebrate the Syracuse Diocese's back-to-school mass, Bishop Douglas Lucia expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the affected families in the tragedy at the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting.

In the wake of the mass shooting, Lucia started his morning mass with a message to the Most Rev. Bernard Hebda, the archbishop of Minneapolis.

"I wish to express to you, upon behalf of the Diocesan Church of Syracuse, our deepest sympathy and condolences that has befallen the members of the Annunciation Parish and its parish school," Lucia said.

He went on to say his congregation mingles tears with theirs over the senseless act of violence.
