The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Jones County School District bus that happened on Wednesday afternoon.

According to officials, the crash happened on August 27, around 2:40 p.m. on Highway 11. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2024 Blue Bird school bus, owned by the district, was traveling west on Eastabuchie Road when it crossed Highway 11 and collided with a 2021 Ford F-250.

The Ford was driven southbound on Highway 11 by 41-year-old Brett Lott of Hattiesburg.

Authorities say the bus driver and a 13-year-old student were injured in the collision and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released at this time.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
