CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The search is on for the next Air Bud, and a local dog is in the running.

Cineverse and Air Bud Entertainment have launched a nationwide talent search to discover the next golden retriever to star as the iconic, basketball-playing Air Bud in the upcoming Air Bud Returns, the latest installment in the classic family movie franchise.

There were over 4,000 submissions, and Charlotte native, Maverick the golden retriever, has been selected as one of the thirty other golden retrievers chosen for callbacks.
