British Columbia’s police watchdog says it is investigating an incident that took place in Mission earlier this week.

Just after 1 p.m. on Aug. 24, the RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle — a white 2017 Ford Focus — on Hurd Street near Sandpiper Place.

The officer spoke to the driver and completed the traffic stop. The driver then left and made a U-turn before being involved in a collision with a motorcycle, the RCMP said.

“The driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries,” the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) said.

“Mission Fire Rescue Service and BC Emergency Health Services arrived and provided aid before the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.”

Mounties say impairment is not believed to be a factor.

The IIO is called in after any police-related incident
