IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man has been charged with theft after authorities say he stole more than $10,000 worth of timber by directing loggers to harvest 132 trees that didn’t belong to him.
Tyler Rogers, 45, is charged with one count of first-degree theft and three counts of timber buyer violation of surety or accounting requirements.
According to a press release from the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, Rogers told loggers, falsely, that he owned the 132 trees and the land they were on, and directed the loggers to harvest the timber in February. The timber from the trees was worth more than $10,000.
Rogers was arrested Wednesday and had his first appearance in court Thursday. He was relea
