GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) - Goose Creek Police say that over a dozen dogs were seen running near a busy intersection in Goose Creek on Monday morning.

Police received calls that the dogs were near the intersection of Red Bank Road and U.S. Highway 52, according to the Charleston Animal Society.

Animal control officers have rescued 17 Chihuahua-Dachshund mixed-breed dogs over the past few days and brought them to the Charleston Animal Society’s Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner for assessment of injuries or illnesses.

One dog, believed to be a part of the group, was found dead near where others were found, believed to have been hit by an oncoming car. Animal control continues to patrol the area to search for any other dogs that may remain in the area.
