CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The tragic murder of a woman who police say was killed by her ex-boyfriend while he was out on bond for kidnapping her has sparked outrage and questions about how domestic violence cases are handled in the Lowcountry.

On March 14, 2023, Janet Crouch went to the Mount Pleasant Police Department and said she had just escaped a dangerous case of domestic violence. Police reports stated Crouch told officers that she and her boyfriend, Jean Lesperance, had gotten into an argument before he became extremely upset.
