On March 14, 2023, Janet Crouch went to the Mount Pleasant Police Department and said she had just escaped a dangerous case of domestic violence. Police reports stated Crouch told officers that she and her boyfriend, Jean Lesperance, had gotten into an argument before he became extremely upset.
