OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - On Thursday, a jury saw body cam footage from a Keokuk County Sheriff’s deputy who was the first to arrive after a hayride crash that injured 13 children.

David Heady is on trial for 13 counts of child endangerment. He was a passenger in the truck pulling the trailer when it crashed near What Cheer on October 14, 2023 .

Thursday’s testimony revealed that Heady had been drinking the day of the crash, and he had opened alcohol in the truck.

He told a state trooper in an interview that the truck was going more than 25 miles an hour before the crash.

One mother described how she found her son after the crash.

“I saw a whole bunch of kids to the right including my son. I saw a ditch full of hay and children laying, not able to move,” Stacey Kelly said.
