BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - County leaders are breaking ground on a major investment in public safety. Construction is underway on a new 911 communications center, radio shop, and fire station expansion.

The project has been years in the making and follows the county’s purchase of a new radio system in 2024. Fire and EMS Chief Jason Ferguson said the groundbreaking represents a milestone for emergency response.

“This is a monumental moment in time to get all the groups together,” Ferguson said. “We work as a team every day, but this is really the first time we’ll be on the same site.”
