BOISE, Idaho — A Nampa man was taken into custody Wednesday night after police accused him of damaging a vehicle and assaulting an officer during his arrest.

Gary Paulsen was taken into custody at approximately 8:44 p.m. after Meridian police responded to reports of a man armed with a 2x4 wooden plank who had struck and damaged a vehicle, according to the Meridian Police Department.

Police said officers attempted to detain Paulsen, but he resisted arrest. Paulsen hit one officer in the face and continued fighting until additional officers arrived to assist.

Paramedics evaluated Paulsen at the scene before transporting him to St. Luke's hospital in Meridian. Nampa Police stated that after refusing medical treatment, he was medically cleared by hospital staff and booked into the Ada Coun
