KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Following public pushback against the city's plan to sell a portion of land in Chilhowee Park to the Emerald Youth Foundation, City Council member Gwen McKenzie plans to make a motion to postpone the vote on the resolution.
The vote was previously postponed on August 19 to the city council meeting set for September 2. During the meeting, McKenzie plans to make a motion to postpone the vote for two weeks to allow more time to listen to questions, suggestions, and concerns from the community.
McKenzie represents the city's Sixth District, which includes Chilhowee Park. This comes after she held a town hall meeting on August 25, during which community members pushed for transparency and community input on the proposal to use the Tennessee Valley Fair’s midway space
