ATLANTA — Grady Health System, home to Atlanta's Level 1 trauma center, has debuted a new medical helicopter.

On Wednesday, the health system held a ribbon-cutting marking the launch of Grady Air, its new emergency helicopter.

According to Grady, it was developed in partnership with Air Methods. The health system said the helicopter expands access to life-saving care.

It will provide medical transport for metro Atlanta and the Southeast.

The helicopter was first announced in June. It is one of the state's largest medical aircraft.

Grady Air is staffed entirely by the health system's medical personnel, including highly trained nurses, paramedics, and critical care specialists, according to officials.
