NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – The first human cases of West Nile have been reported in New Jersey, health officials announced on Thursday.
A child tested positive for West Nile virus neuroinvasive disease in Atlantic County. The child showed symptoms in the third week of July, officials said.
An adult in Middlesex County also tested positive for the disease, with symptoms reported in the first week of August. Both residents have been released from the hospital and are recovering at home, officials said.
An additional case involving an asymptomatic blood donor in Sussex County was also reported.
Health officials noted there are currently four suspected cases in New Jersey under investigation.
“We are urging the public to not let their guard down and continue to protect themselves from mosquito
