EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - UPDATE (5:32 p.m.): The Emporia Police Department stated that officers responded to an active shooter alarm at Newman Regional Health.

Officers searched the premises, and it appears to be an alarm only.

Officials say no active threat has been identified.

Emporia Police are investigating a report of gunshots near Newman Regional Health.

The X account for Emporia State University issued a message around 4:30 p.m. Thursday about an active shooter near the hospital.

Emporia Police Chief Ed Owens told 13 NEWS the Emporia Police Dept. responded to a call about the hospital. Owens said no one on scene had heard anything, and officers were actively clearing the building as of 5 p.m.
