LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Families are still in mourning after Wednesday’s mass shooting that left two children dead at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.

The impact of the tragedy has trickled down to the Catholic community in the Pine Belt.

“Tornado victims need money. Hurricane people need money,” said Fr. Tommy Conway of St. Fabian Catholic Church. “But in the case of this sort of mass shooting, they definitely need prayer, support and love.”

The news reached the congregation at the Lamar County church soon after things escalated.

“It’s one of those things you wish wasn’t true or a false alarm,” Conway said.

Conway said he’s still in disbelief that a tragedy like this could happen at a place of worship.
