CROWN POINT — A Chicago man was sentenced Thursday to five years for beating a man in 2023 in a Taco Bell parking lot.

Dominique Jones, 30, will serve three years in the Department of Correction, court records show, followed by two years on probation.

Jones assaulted a 60-year-old man May 4, 2023, at the fast food restaurant's location at 7949 Calumet Ave., in Munster, which caused the man to lose two teeth. He suffered other mouth wounds and a scrape on his arm.

Jones pleaded guilty to battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level five felony. Level five felonies carry a sentence of between one to six years in prison.

Prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of aggravated battery against him in exchange for his guilty plea. Aggravated battery is a level three felony,
