PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh says there is "no credible threat" and people can "resume normal activity" after police evacuated students and issued an alert for an "unconfirmed report of an armed person" on Thursday afternoon.
At 12:49 p.m., the university shared the following alert: "Police have cleared the Barco Law Building. No credible threat. Resume normal activity."
That came after initial alerts around 12:30 p.m. that said: "Pitt E.N.S. Alert: UPPD and City police on scene at Barco Law School for an unconfirmed report of an armed person. Avoid the area" and "Police continue to search the area. Avoid the area. Report any suspicious activity."
Students were congregated outside the building after getting escorted outside by law enforcement around 12:45 p.m.
