Oxford Street will be pedestrianised for a landmark free event. The one-day road closure, on Sunday, September 21, runs from Orchard Street to Oxford Circus, to celebrate the ‘This is Oxford Street’ event.
The trial could show what the famous shopping district might look like in the future as Transport for London (TfL) moves forward on the idea of doing away with traffic on Oxford Street. A consultation showed around 70 per cent of respondents supports the Mayor’s plans to rejuvenate the nation’s most famous high street, with 66 per cent supporting the idea of pedestrianisation.
