Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho State Police (ISP) is warning residents about a new scam circulating in the state with scammers “spoofing” ISP numbers.

These reports follow a series of suspicious calls reported to the ISP over the past several days. Residents say they receive calls that appear to be from the ISP, according to a recent news release .

For example, in one reported incident, a parent answered several calls from a man posing as a medic and claiming there was something wrong with their child. The scammer asked for the child’s name while the parents could hear crying in the background. It was later confirmed that the child was safe at school, but this case highlights the highly manipulative tactics used by scammers.
