ORONO, Maine — A week before students begin the 2025 fall semester, about a thousand members of the University of Maine community received an email from the new director of Student Accessibility Services.

However, Director Erica Tweedie did not BCC (blind carbon copy) the recipients of her introductory email, revealing the names and emails of approximately 1,000 recipients. Students argue that this mistake violates their privacy and want more action from the university.

The email was initially sent on Monday morning, and Tweedie listed the new amenities and improvements for this semester. But when Lincoln Tiner, a master’s student of history, noticed the long list of recipients, he knew something was wrong.
