ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - First Alert 4 has reported for years that St. Louis City has fallen behind in population.

Census data shows the city has a little over 279,000 residents.

Alderman Michael Browning said despite the city losing population, the Central West End continues to see growth.

“Population gain anywhere in the city is good for the whole city,” Alderman Browning said.

In the last decade, Alderman Browning said about 2,000 people have moved into the neighborhood, making it the neighborhood with the most population gain in the city.

“We’re only losing a few thousand people at this point every year so when we’re adding 2,000 in one neighborhood that’s a big deal,” Alderman Browning said.
